We set off from Moderns pretty much on time - although with a bit of a detour for Simon to fetch Jevan and Ameer - and with the players all wearing their Cian face masks (not seen the photo of that yet?). It was a bit of a trek to Boston and when we got there it was freezing cold, snowing and the pitch was a bit of a swamp but they couldn't have been more welcoming. After a quick run through and a bit of a plan as to how to cover the players who were off skiing (although they were probably warmer than we were!), we retreated to the changing rooms to get ready for kick off and to surgically remove Chu's phone and give him some counselling over the poor Wifi / phone signal in Lincolnshire.
John Wayne made his first appearance of the tour before kick off and then we got underway. There was a fair bit of dropped ball to start with but then we tightened up and a burst from Henry put Jevan in for the first score. Boston came straight back into the game when they put one of their centres into space and he was able to run in the score, which was converted. We got back into the lead when Henry picked up from the base of the scrum and beat the Boston winger to score. We then had to absorb a lot of pressure but were really aggressive in defence and when the turnover eventually came Aryan nearly made the line but unselfishly fed the ball on to Sam F to score. At half time it was 15 - 7 and time to retreat to the changing rooms.
Boston started the second half strongly and again we had to absorb a lot of pressure before breaking out. Will took the ball into contact and disappeared under a pile of bodies and got a smack on the nose for his trouble. The next score was probably the try of the game when we moved the ball really well through the hands, put Liam into a bit of space and he did an Eliot Daly to outpace the cover to score (Will converted). Liam got his second when NLD and Joe combined well to make a hole in the Boston defence and Liam's pace did the rest. Final score 27 - 7.
Considering the conditions it was a really good game of rugby that was played in a good spirit. Man of the match went to Liam.
The boys emerged from the showers in fancy dress, Jevan complaining that his Princess outfit didn't fit properly! Boston laid on a really good meal and after Liam won the pint of lemonade race they entertained the lads with a game of 'Messy Pong', turns out Ebbie really doesn't like pork scratchings. It was late when we got to Butlin's and finding our accommodation wasn't as easy as it could've been but at least it was warm.
