Four moderns veterans James Feasey John Cole David Finlinson John Bentley took to the Welsh valleys. The task at hand to do 100K in less than 10 hrs. The modes of transport are cycling, running and kayaking. The first task to undertake. Was an 19K run up and down table mountain in the Brecon Beckons. With this task completed, it was time for 39K off-road cycle. Again another long climb. With a 2 mile off rode drop. With both of the longest routes completed. The challenge then changes to more technical but shorter routes. The run is through a thick wood area. A lot of greasy banks and fallen trees. This routes length is 14K. The off road cycle, consists of a shorter climb. The biggest issue is the path is strewn with rocks. Pinging the bikes wheels in any direction other than straight. With this finished that’s another 17K in the bag. This leaves the last 2 routes. Both fairly flat but as the day has gone on. Both courses have been churned up. The run is a simple 5K through long grass. The bike ride is a 10K romp along the canal. The kayaking had to be cancelled because of the high river levels. If the 4 that started only one managed to complete it in the allotted time. A great weekend was had by all. Role on next years challenge.
